We, civil society organisations, Indigenous peoples, social movements, and relevant stakeholders are calling on our governments to take urgent action to stop the global water crisis.
From the 22nd until the 24th of March 2023, for the first time in almost 50 years, the United Nations will convene in New York to kick off a global action agenda to tackle the water crisis.
The UN Water Conference, organized by the UN General Assembly, the Netherlands and Tadjikistan, has the potential to create a global momentum to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6 on Water and Sanitation, and elevate water in the global political agenda.
Despite the warning calls issued by Indigenous peoples, water defenders and scientists, as of today, there is no binding international policy on water management or reliable mechanisms to coordinate global action.
At the Conference, we hope to pave the way for new government pledges on Water, including at the upcoming High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (July), the SDG Summit (September), and the UN General Assembly.
